ISG Improves its Platform Performance, Achieves 30% Savings on Operational Costs by Moving to AWS
With the help of Searce, In-Solutions Global Ltd (ISG) has now deployed a secure and well architected AWS environment for their Microsoft workloads. Along with this, Searce helped ISG with a monthly savings of over 30% with improved availability and more efficient operations.
- ISG acts as a catalyst in simplifying operational complexities
- ISG caters to domains like Digital Banking, Personalized Instant Cards, Reconciliation & Accounting, UPI and more
ISG’s need for Global Expansion and Service Diversification
ISG wanted to migrate to a proven cloud platform considering their global expansion plans and services diversification in multiple regions. By adopting cloud the client wanted to:
- Achieve scalability to serve global users on a secured platform with global compliance standards
- Remove performance constraints on the platform supported for merchants & consumers
- Reduce Latency by consolidating the application platform & enable multi-regional availability
How ISG Leveraged Cloud-Native Security through AWS to Balance their Workloads
- Searce leveraged the cloud-native security and enterprise-friendly networking services on AWS for MAPS Application and Database migration to cloud
- The architecture utilized AWS frameworks to build a secure and highly available windows platform. The entire setup was deployed inside a VPC, an isolated section of AWS Cloud solely for ISG
- The implemented architecture had a categorisation of application and DB subnets on individual available zones
- Load balancers were configured as a single point of contact for users. The load balancer helped to distribute incoming application traffic across EC2 instances in both Availability Zones. This led to increase in availability of the application making it fault-tolerant
- The application servers were hosted on EC2 instances placed in multiple customer environments with Auto Scaling Groups enabled to scale up or down as the load on the servers change to serve the users
- For added security NACL’s were configured for Subnet level security, whereas, security groups are configured for instance-level security. The Application, as well as the database servers, had been placed inside the security groups
- CloudWatch and CloudTrail were configured for resource monitoring and keeping a track of activity logs
- Application and Database server backups are now stored in an S3 bucket which enables cost-effective storage consumption. EBS snapshots are configured and stored in the S3 bucket. The AMI’s for the configuration in the availability zone are also stored in the S3 bucket. These AMI’s would hold the configuration of the entire AZ setup. CloudFormation templates are used to fast track the infrastructure configuration changes and provisioning
- A separate subnet for DevOps had been configured which has CodeCommit, CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy to automate the CI/CD pipeline for feature updates and releases
- AWS CodeCommit was configured for version control of the infrastructure code and managed assets (such as documents, source code, and binary files) in the cloud. AWS CodeBuild is being used for continuous integration service that compiles source code, runs tests, and produces software packages that are ready to deploy. AWS CodeDeploy is used to automate the application deployments to EC2 instances
- A VPN connection was configured between the AWS infrastructure and on-premises ISG data center (Bank users and ISG DevOps team) to establish a secure connection to enable the developments to seamlessly access and improvise the services
- The replication strategy and execution for the platform & application stack was made easier for their global expansion plans and faster time to market of services in different regions
- Global teams were able to manage the platform and applications round the clock seamlessly using the cloud-native monitoring & support services stack on AWS
- The IT expenses moved away from CAPEX to OPEX that resulted in 30% savings on operational costs
